Evaluation Question 2

The media represents allot of social groups in race, gender, age and other factors this is used to show certain types of people in society. Such as an old person 65+ is usually shown as a golf fan, whisky drinker and a 'chav' is normally represented as a lower class person who lives in a council estate.
This movie is based around the portrayal of middle class white people as the two main characters at the start are both white and male. The first spy is clearly middle class as he is shown to be getting ready in a middle class style house. This links in with most spy thrillers as the main character is normally a white male in such movies such as the 'Bourne' series and 'James Bond' who is another middle class white male. these aren't the only two movies with a white male as the star, it seems to be a genre convention for spy thrillers. The woman in most spy thrillers are normally seen as the weaker more inferior to males. Its normally James Bond who has go to save the female before saving the world. They follow that whole damsel in distress situation that most movie is going for, but we filliped that on its head as the killer at the end of our film is female killing a male person. This shows that there are a few exceptions in society and that not everyone is how they are portrayed in the media. Such as the movie salt where Angelina Jolie is the hero, she is female. Or that you never see Will Smith play a bad guy and that he too is always the hero. this shows that most people live up to genre convention but there are always exceptions in society.

This is a photo of one of our actors (you cant see his face to create a certain mystery) and next to it is a photo of James Bond'. I felt that his character would be most suiting as they are both British, white and avid suit wearers. They both represent the middle class white male man.
Their appearance is mainly the same, suit and tie fancy formal wear. Bond and our spy both are relied on by the government, In order to protect and save the country they love and they both fight for the queen. Both characters could represent safety as when they are around the bad guys normally lose a get killed. or that means they could represent victory as they never lose.
The differences between the two characters is that James Bond is a rule breaker and does things his own way which gets results where as our characters play by the rules at the beginning, that just leads to one of them being dead.
We chose our characters as they not only follow convention of stereotypical white males but they create messages and meaning. They fit well with the genre convention and they display patriotism and honor towards the country they love. That gives morals and meaning to the character.
