It wasn't easy to keep continuity, we had to keep worrying about what went where and if when a character picked up an object that when we moved the camera he kept it in the same hand. The worst aspect was the weather. As most of our film was outside, we had to re-shoot a whole two scenes as the weather that day was different.
The picture next to this text shows a brief understanding of the 180 degree rule, the red side represents a place where the camera cannot go as to keep the characters on the same side in the final product and the green side shows where the camera can go in order to keep the characters on the same side of shot. we reviewed this in our continuity exercise.
And yes i knows its poor quality.
The video focuses on the 180 degree rule and that when the paper is thrown that it didn't change hand at all
We focused on continuity as this task would help us learn it for our main presentation.
Shot types
This exercise taught me and my group all about shot types and how they can be used as a representation of each character, for example say if the camera was looking up on them that would represent them in a higher power and as important such as a king the camera would normally look up on them as they are of importance. Another shot type that this exercise taught us was the shot-reverse shot. The task showed us the importance of it to be shown in a conversation so you can see the characters faces and maybe link it to what they are saying.
Editing
This exercise also taught me and my group the importance behind editing. As we need to get it all in time otherwise the dialogue and visuals will not match up. The editing process also taught us about the software known as iMovie, a program in which i have never used before. It showed me how to go around using
iMovie and how to use the basic controls of it for when it comes to the time we edit our really presentation.
Camera Movements
This task also taught me about camera movements. How to move a camera in such a way that it shows both characters talking to each other without breaking the 180 degree rule. It was difficult at 1st but that's to the task we learnt how to do it and knew what we needed to know for the final task. The same applies for match on action.
Techniques
The continuity exercise showed me that it is a better idea to have two or three cameras running at the same time shooting at different positions instead of just having one and filming it three times from different angles or just stopping and starting and it would help increase the chances of complete continuity and give the film more sense of realism. The whole part of a thriller is to try and make it more realistic so people will take it seriously and make it look more professional.
